Please help me by subscribing to this blog and passing on that request to other parents of our great school.

*I am going to saturate this blog with all of the wonderful upcoming events we have happening at Eielson, so be prepared for some notifications. :)

Please be aware of the special task force that the Grand Forks Public School district has created to study the demographics of the elementary schools in the Grand Forks system (including Eielson). This team is looking at the possibilities of closing, repurposing, and/or combining some schools. If changes were made, they may occur for the 2012-13 school year.
Information pertinent to Eielson School includes the Base Commander’s State of the Base address to the GFAFB School Board and to this Demographic Task Force. Col. Bush shared his belief that the district should again revisit the idea of combining Eielson and Twining Schools. This will be a topic of conversation for the Demographic Task Force at future meetings.
You can review all meeting minutes, agendas, and key messages from the district webpage: www.gfschools.org. Future correspondence regarding the Demographic Task Force’s key messages will continue to be emailed to parents from the ‘EielsonOffice’ account. Please check your inbox for these messages. Also note the Demographic Task Force meetings are open to the public and are held at the Mark Sanford Education Center in Grand Forks.
Future Demographic Task Force meetings will be:
Monday, Dec. 19th @ 12 noon to 2pm
Tuesday, Jan. 3rd @ 12 noon to 3pm. (*This meeting will entail a final decision of recommendations to be presented to the district school board on January 9th, 2012.)
Keep in mind that any recommendations need to be reviewed by the school board, discussed at the Public Forum on January 23rd at 6:00pm, and would then need final approval from the GF School Boards to go into effect. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mrs. Jonasson at 787-5000.

If so, you will want to check out our Gearing Up for Kindergarten program. Gearing Up for Kindergarten is aparent and child kindergarten readiness program that hasfun interactive activities for parents and preschoolers.
Preschoolers learn how to write their name, practice the letters of the alphabet, participate in simple math activities, do lots of singing and reading, but most of all, have fun.
They also learn important social skills: taking turns, listening, sharing, and not interrupting. Parents learn strategies to prepare children for kindergarten and each week create fun take home activities to use at home. Parents are a child’s first and best teacher, come learn how you play an important role in your child’s school success.

At MMO on October 31st, I introduced our Treats for Troops campaign that would run through the week. Collecting treats to send to our deployed Air Force men and women has allowed us all to show our appreciation for those serving in the military and practice what it means to be Thankful (our character education word of the month). Thank you to all students, families and staff members that contributed to this great cause!
Our MMO on November 7th (2:15 p.m.) will highlight the final collection of 'leftover' Halloween treats. In addition, we will pay tribute to all Veterans and those currently serving in the United States military.
Welcome to Eielson Elementary School's BLOG! In an effort to reach as many parents as possible in the most convenient way possible, I have created this blog to keep parents updated with the happenings at Eielson as well as to share current news in the world of education and children. As a parent of 3 young children myself, I find that so many things we need to know and want to know come at the busiest times of the day. For example, the 'rush through the door' timeframe: trying to check on everyone's day, check homework, make supper, and so forth. Then there is the "mayhem before bedtime" when everyone is ready to head upstairs for pajamas, brushing teeth, and bedtime stories, only to hear "Oh, no! I forgot to have you read..." from child #1 or "did you sign my planner?" from child #2...and I question myself, is the Show and Tell for letter of the week ready for our preschooler? Even with all the routines we try to establish, it seems inevitable that the home hours are rushed, which leads to stressed parents and eventually stressed children. Here's todecreasing that stressfor you! Once your children are tucked in, check on the happenings at Eielson when the house is quiet and you can relax! My goal is my post items that will keep you informed and a part of our school community that you can check at your leisure. Be sure to "subscribe" (located on the right sidebar) to get emails informing you of new blog postings. Thank you for being a part of your child's education...Happy Reading! :)
